This piece was created with a base layer of acrylic that is then wiped and partially removed as it dries to achieve a similar appearance to an aged leather patina. The intricate details achieved through this technique are utterly unique and, by nature of the technique used to create them, cannot be replicated. I’m drawn to styles like this that are only capable of creating one result.
There is a finite beauty in the resulting work, an encapsulation of a moment in time that will last forever and never be repeated. While I strive for uniqueness in the smaller markings and shapes that are added to the base layer, there is inevitably a theme and style in these additions that I come back to, as followers and collectors of my work will note. To me the most interesting detail is what came first, the intentionally unintentional intricacies of the foundation, because as much as I might wish, I can never Do It Again.
