Maureen
Blue and Pink Abstract Painting
Acrylic and Oil Pastel on Canvas
This piece is the physical manifestation of listening to Sade’s Maureen on repeat for two days. While the result is expressionistic, that wasn’t my conscience intent. In creating this piece I had no set motivation or goal for the outcome.
I tried hard to not think (that’s a fun activity for your weekend!) about how the brushstrokes reacted to the canvas or how the paints and pastels interacted with each other.
I just sought to feel, to hear the song and rhythm and the words and allow an intuitive interpretation to flow through my hands and onto the canvas.
It’s easier said than done, as the piles of unfinished and unworthy canvases in my studio can attest to, but on this occasion the painting gods looked favourably upon me.
